When I came to Body Be Fit, I had three obstacles blocking my way to a healthier lifestyle: type 1 diabetes, social smoking, and bad eating habits.
Thankfully, Kevin was confident that we could get over two out of the three hurdles. And even though I’ve had diabetes since I was twelve, he was sure we could manage or improve my life with the disease.
The program Kevin came up with was designed to reach my goals in a safe and effective manner. With the approval from my physician, we were off to the races. We began in April 2010, and I weighed 238 pounds with 33% body fat. My workout plan was a mix of personal training, bootcamps, and a family cardio program which allowed me to run with my wife, Ceilidh, and son, Caeden. I really appreciated the fact that Kevin had designed my training schedule to work with my family life, social commitments, and work schedule.
I think I looked at Kevin like he had three heads when he first told me to go for a run, but I did it – and I kept doing it, regularly. I ran my first 5 km race at the 2010 Sport Chek Mother’s Day Run, and I didn’t look back.
Kevin helped me remain diligent in my training, monitoring my eating, and keeping my diabetes in check. With the improvement in my overall health, I finally understood the benefits of leading an active and healthy lifestyle.
After several weeks of training and seeing the results on the measuring tape, my clothes felt looser and I was stronger and more energetic. I lost a total of 30 pounds in six months*, but I gained the realization that dedication, hard work, and discipline can change your life.
